HIPPY Changes Lives
Decades of research have shown the HIPPY model to be effective in improving school readiness, parent involvement, school attendance, and standardized test scores in reading and math throughout elementary school.
Kids in HIPPY are more ready for kindergarten
Children who participated in HIPPY were between 1.5 and 2 times more likely to test ready for kindergarten compared to their peers. 1
HIPPY children are far more likely to advance from kindergarten to first grade.
The odds of being promoted to first grade were 5 times higher for those who participated in the HIPPY program.2
HIPPY creates lasting academic impact
A study of children from mostly low-income, Latino families found that those who participated in HIPPY as young children outperformed their peers on 5th grade reading and math assessments. 3
Parents who participate in HIPPY report closer relationships with their children
“Parents who participated in HIPPY learning activities with their child reported closer parent–child relationships” than those who weren’t involved with HIPPY.4
HIPPY parents are more involved in their child’s education
According to kindergarten teachers, 91% of HIPPY parents were “as involved” or “more involved” as their peers in their child’s education. 5
