Colorado relies on federal funding to support four evidence-based home visiting programs across the state. The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program began under the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and is currently up for reauthorization in Congress.
As the state intermediary for two of the programs funded through MIECHV in Colorado—Parents as Teachers (PAT) and Home Instruction for Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY)—Parent Possible was excited to see bipartisan support of reauthorization in recent discussions of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Home visitors in Colorado conducted over 5,700 home visits with more than 1,300 families since the beginning of the new year alone. MIECHV funding makes it possible to serve families across the state, most of whom live below the federal poverty line (68 percent) and face other barriers such as low educational attainment (33 percent) or lack health insurance coverage (28 percent).
