Maria De Jesus Fernandez, a Parent Educator at Focus Points Family Resource Center, has been honored with the Parent Educator of the Year Award, and was recognized at the Parents as Teachers National Conference in Dallas, TX.
Maria has been a Parent Educator at Focus Points for 9 years, having previously worked as a HIPPY Home Visitor for several years. Throughout her time working as a Parent Educator, Maria has helped and empowered countless families to invest in their children’s education. Maria is dedicated to the families she serves in many different ways, as she understands the diverse issues and needs of those in the community. Luisa Candelaria, the Parents as Teachers Program Coordinator at Focus Points, described Maria as “a natural leader, who continues to grow with her families on a daily basis. Maria loves the work she does with families, and most importantly, the families feel so lucky when they have Maria as their Parent Educator.”
Maria has made a difference in the lives of many parents and children throughout her time with Focus Points and Parents as Teachers, and we are confident that she will continue to do so. Her colleagues regard her “pleasant personality, her ability to bring solutions to the table, and her flexibility when needed, as great examples of how Maria demonstrates team spirit and leadership.
